2632: AC infusion & needle decompression

Close-up of an eye during cataract surgery, illustrating AC infusion and needle decompression techniques. The image shows a surgical instrument performing infusion in one hand and an aspirating needle in the other, with annotations highlighting the procedure.

We have featured many videos about how to safely perform a capsulorhexis for an intumescent white cataract. In this technique our guest surgeon, Dr Neel Pasricha who was on our CataractCoach Podcast yesterday, uses a 23g infusion cannula in the left hand to provide infusion pressure while the right hand, via another paracentesis, has a 25g needle attached to the aspiration line. Then the phaco machine, on cortex removal mode of irrigation/aspiration, can be used to puncture the anterior lens capsule and decompress the capsular bag. This is similar to a previously featured technique and it seems to work quite well.
