
It is very unusual to see this type of annular cataract where the remaining lens material is in the shape of a donut. So unusual, in fact, that I have never performed surgery in a case like this. Often the result of trauma, the central lens material has been liquefied and then absorbed, leaving a ring of residual lens material. In this case the central capsule is also scarred.
