I recently did LASIK surgery for a young patient, in his early 20s, who surprised me when he said that his full-time job was making YouTube videos of him playing video games. He explained that most video game players really enjoy watching other people play video games and he racks up hundreds of millions of views this way. It makes sense: even though I’ve done thousands of cataract surgeries over the past two decades, I still really enjoy watching other surgeons perform ocular surgery as well. In this case, we have a dense brunescent whitish cataract and that is always a challenge. Our guest surgeon does a beautiful job with this case and the most amazing part is the gift of sight that the patient receives. Going from blind to normal vision with cataract surgery is one of the true miracles of modern medicine. Plus it’s fun to watch.
