1202: pearls for your first LASIK surgery

It is important to learn LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery during residency training. When I was a resident more than 20 years ago, Anne Coleman MD PhD was instrumental in arranging for the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute residents to learn LASIK. I was fortunate to be the first resident at our program to perform LASIK during residency training. And Professor Coleman went on to become president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology!

This video shows a complete LASIK case using the Zeiss Visumax femtosecond laser to create the flap and then the Alcon Wavelight Allegretto excimer laser for the corneal ablation. There are some very good pearls in this video that will help you in performing your first LASIK surgery.
