
In this CataractQuiz™ we are presented with a common dilemma encountered during intraocular lens (IOL) insertion. As the surgeon attempts to manipulate this one-piece acrylic lens to release the haptics, they appear to be inextricably stuck to the optic. Notice how the distal portion of the haptic seems welded to the optic, resisting gentle attempts to free it with a second instrument or intraocular forceps. Why is this?
