During your residency training performing about 150 to 200 cataract surgeries is typical in the USA, with some programs offering more than 300 while the minimum ACGME requirement is 86 cases. There are some countries where the volume is very low and there are others where the volume is very high but at the cost of extra years of training (with very low wages). For most young ophthalmologists that means that you hit the 500 to 600 range, which is about half-way up the learning curve. In this video our guest surgeon does a great job for case 600 and if you are at about this level, you can use this as a benchmark for what you should have achieved.
