Part of being a great cataract surgeon is having the skills to do all types of anterior segment surgery including pterygium. While during our residency training a pterygium surgery is seen as a more basic surgery for the junior residents, it is actually a very nuanced procedure. The difference between a good pterygium surgery and a great one is in the details, especially when it comes to performing the auto-graft of conjunctiva.
