2551: Should you aspirate synechiae?

Close-up of an eye during a surgical procedure, showing a tool aspirating pigment with a warning label for careful aspiration. Text overlays question the necessity of aspirating synechiae.

This patient had a prior trabeculectomy and with post-operative inflammation developed synechiae of the iris onto the anterior lens capsule. Now with cataract surgery the synechiae are carefully lysed and the nucleus and cortex are removed. Should you now use the IA probe to aspirate the synechiae? What about dangling pieces of iris pigment? What about a fibrous membrane? Please share your advice with us by commenting below.
