Being a cataract surgeon is stressful and every patient demands a perfect outcome. The most challenging cases are often those where we are working in the smallest spaces. Small eyes with short axial lengths, crowded anterior segments, shallow anterior chambers, miotic pupils, and weak zonular support. I’m feeling stressed out just by typing those words! These nanophthalmic eyes are even tougher when the patients are monocular and everything regarding their sight for the rest of their lives depends on your surgery. These very stressful cases take a toll on your health as a surgeon and each one probably takes a week off your life! Our guest surgeon is Professor Ramesh Ayyala from USF Tampa and he does a great job tackling these three tough monocular cases. Truly amazing!
