We are all indebted to the optical engineers who design our IOLs for cataract surgery and this is particularly true for these complex designs which incorporate multifocality, asphericity, and even toric corrections on the same platform. These new generation of IOLs can make our patients, and us, very happy with great vision across a wide range. So why are there sometimes patients who are dissatisfied with the performance of these IOLs and how can we predict which patients will be the happiest?
