
It is always a challenge to deal with trauma in a pediatric patient. Their tissues are different and the result of surgery will need to last them many decades. In the case presented here, a 9 year old boy sustained penetrating ocular trauma 6 months ago which resulted in a corneal scar, irido-corneal adhesions, and a posterior subcapsular cataract. With 20/200 vision, this child needs cataract surgery to restore functional vision and binocularity. So many challenges here including what would be your choice for IOL selection and for target refraction, assuming the other eye is plano? Please comment below.
