1968: dense cataract phaco without ultrasound

Looking at the photo above, it would seem incredulous that it could be removed with a phaco probe with zero ultrasonic energy. Our guest surgeon, Dr Rishi Gupta, is a vitreo-retinal surgeon who has previously featured work before on our channel and he is also the author of an outstanding book for young surgeons. The key for this case is mechanical fragmentation of the nucleus into smaller pieces which can be manually stuffed into the phaco tip.
