This is a novel device that combines an artificial iris with an IOL in order to address aphakia and aniridia in cases such as this one, where the patient sustained traumatic damage to the eye. This device has three haptics spaced 120 degrees apart and our guest surgeon uses the flange technique with 5-0 or 6-0 Prolene (polypropylene) sutures to secure it to the sclera. This is the first time that I have seen this unique device and I doubt that it is available in the USA. The packaging is shown in the video and if you can read the text, please give us a translation in the comments section below.
This combined iris prosthesis + IOL is appears to be a product made by a Russian company called Reper-NN. Check out this link: https://www.reper.ru/iris#acrylic.
Thanks Dr. Devgan for your videos and wealth of information you make available to ophthalmologists the world over. I am a better cataract surgeon thanks to you.
Dear Prof.Dr. Devgan,
this is a Iris Aniridia Prothesis from Reper. Produced in Russia. Reper belongs to the Rayner Group UK .We distributed this lens up to last year February within Europe ( OPHTEC BV). I attended a few implantations here in Germany with great success and very good results for all patients. They offered 3 different version for sulcus and for the capsular bag as well, all with integrated lenses from 0-40 in 0.5 D steps or without optic in about 300 different color version. We offered only 120 which was already more than enough. I can send you our guide we made for our surgeons regarding this lens and clinical results.
Prof Dr. Sekundo of Uni Klinikum Marburg has probably the most experience with this lens here in Germany if you would like to get more information.
Kind Regards
Martina Benning
