99% of the time the IOL implanted at the time of cataract surgery is the one that the patient will look through for life. However in rare cases we sometimes need to perform an IOL exchange. This video shows different techniques for explanting the IOL including the twist technique, the re-fold method, and the half-cut way. All are reasonable and you should learn them all. Note that in some cases of a calcified / opacified IOL, the material can become harder and more difficult to cut or even bend / fold / twist.
