Our guest surgeon is a very experienced cataract surgeon and an expert at phaco, but he has decided to perform MSICS for this patient and he submits this video which is his 2nd MSICS procedure to date. The case is great and the outcome is fantastic for this patient who recovers excellent vision right away. And I especially like seeing how our guest surgeon uses my modification of the opposite paracentesis to push the nucleus out of the eye.
A common mistake among less experienced surgeons is to think that “any type of cataract can be removed with phaco and therefore I do not need to learn MSICS!” That is a mistake because you are always better having more techniques in your skillset because there are cases where, in fact, MSICS is better than phaco. This video shows one of those cases.
