1333: pre-chopper for nucleus division

The pre-chopper is an instrument with two blades which are shaped like paddles and they are embedded into the nucleus and then pushed apart in order to divide the cataract into smaller pieces. It is a quick and easy technique to learn and it was popularized by Dr Akahoshi from Japan. It certainly works well in this surgeon’s hands and I encourage you to try it if you are struggling to learn phaco chop.
