Our guest surgeons today teamed up to help complete this cataract surgery in a nanophthalmic eye. The axial length is less than 20mm and the anterior chamber is flat. The vitreo-retinal surgeon, Nimesh Patel MD, performs a limited pars plana anterior vitrectomy to create space so that the anterior chamber can be deepened. Then the anterior segment surgeon, Nandini Venkateswaran MD, performs the cataract surgery. The result is great and the patient achieves the best vision of her life. There are some very important pearls to learn from this video and also some caveats to keep in mind.
