This video features a combination phaco chop (a combination of vertical chop and horizontal chop techniques) where we play the same video clip at regular speed, then at half-speed, and finally at quarter-speed. By watching it again in slow motion we are better able to show the nuances which allow this technique to be so efficient. Once you realize that you can chop a nucleus into two halves with minimal ultrasound energy in just a second or two, you may not want to go back to divide-and-conquer (which is less efficient, requires more ultrasound energy, and is slower).
