1263: double hook pre-chop technique

Our guest surgeon, Dr Érico Jun Oda from Brazil, does a great job with this surgery. Using just two hooks or choppers, he traps the nucleus between the instrument tips and splits the nucleus into halves and then quarters. This is a purely mechanical way of splitting the nucleus and it does not require any ultrasonic energy. If you have done fewer than 1000 surgeries, be warned that this procedure looks easier than it actually is. You must carefully balance the nucleus between the two instruments so that it does not move. Notice how the two hooks move, but the nucleus is absolutely still. This requires precision with both the left and right hands at the same time.
