1015: phaco flip + chop in pseudo-exfoliation

This complete cataract case features an elderly patient with a dense cataract and pseudo-exfoliation. We use the flip and chop technique to bring the nucleus partially out of the capsular bag and then disassemble it at the iris plane. This keeps the pupil dilated during cataract removal. It is also a surprisingly gentle technique which adds a measure of safety to these challenging cases.

  1. Can this method cause postoperative corneal odema ؟
Because the large bulky nucleus perhaps comes in contact with endothelium ، which is not 100% healthy in old pseudoexfoliative eye?
