In this video we review the differences between right-handed phaco and left-handed phaco. As expected, the instruments are held differently, with the phaco probe tending to be in the dominant hand, but is this the best option? During cataract surgery, which hand requires more dexterity: the phaco hand or the chopper hand? In phaco chop, the chopper hand is doing more work and the phaco hand is relatively stationary.
We have posted prior videos where I am doing surgery with my left hand in order to make the incision on the patient’s steep corneal meridian. We have also showed the importance and angles involved with hand positioning.
