3100: Podcast 188: Mark Hankins MD

I was amazed to see a post from the USF Tampa residency program that showed ALL of their PGY2 residents successfully complete the 10-10-10 challenge. This means throwing 10 sutures of 10-0 nylon in 10 minutes in the wet-lab. This is not easy and takes considerable practice. Of the residents who trained at UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute during the 20+ years that I was professor there, only a small percent succeeded in this challenge. Their fearless leader in the wet-lab is Dr Mark Hankins who also attends them at the USF Tampa James A. Haley VA Hospital. In this podcast we delve into the power of dedication, persistence, and pure work ethic in surgery.
