2695: re-thinking intumescent white cataracts

Diagram illustrating Pannet's IA Capsulotomy technique for white cataracts, emphasizing engineering principles in surgery. Includes details on initial capsulotomy under BSS with normal intraocular pressure and the process of puncture under IA.

On yesterday’s CataractCoach Podcast (the top podcast in all of ophthalmology!) we discussed applying engineering principles to challenging cataract surgery cases with Professor Pannet Pangputhipong from Thailand. One of the very interesting concepts was avoiding the use of viscoleastic initially during the decompression of an intumescent white cataract. That goes against some of our prior teaching and understanding. Watch the video and let me know if this approach is something that you would consider for the next time you perform surgery for an intumescent white cataract. Please comment below.
