2161: Quiz: What type of cataract is this?

This patient developed this condition over the past 6 months to 1 year and now presents to your clinic with light perception vision. What is going on here? What type of cataract is this? Stop reading now if you want to wait for the answer…. This is ocular cholesterolosis and it is very unusual – so unusual that I have never seen a case like this in my 25+ year career. It can happen in rare cases (and it is primarily uni-lateral) and may be associated with trauma, retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, and more. Have you ever seen a case like this?

  1. Hi Uday,
Patient had a painful eye due to high IOP, secondary to CRVO and TRD. Operated just to relief pain. Acqueous was aspirated for didactic purpose, you network is the top Channel so here are the results: 50mg/dL of proteins and 296mg/dL of cholesterol (vitreous cavity was like vitrectomising one of my daughters glitter make up liquid, sorry, can’t specify which one, not an expert on that)
