2138: connecting IOL haptic to a suture

When performing the Yamane technique of intra-scleral haptic fixation there are two main challenges: (1) externalizing the haptics through the sclera, and (2) securely fixating the haptics within the sclera. In this video our guest surgeon shows the simplified way of putting the haptics within the hollow bore of a 30g needle outside of the eye and then the method of coupling the haptic with a 5-0 Prolene suture with a 380 micron spatulated needle using a polyimide tube. This allows the surgeon to pass the suture within the sclera and then securely fixate the haptic within that scleral channel, giving long term support. Very interesting idea. Let me know what you think.
