2105: primary piggyback IOL after trauma

Our guest surgeon presents a case of a patient who sustained a penetrating thorn injury to his eye and then had surgery to repair the ruptured globe. The corneal perforation was sutured and the ruptured anterior lens capsule meant that the lens material had to be aspirated. The patient was left aphakic with an intact posterior capsule and given time to heal. Now the patient is ready for a secondary IOL implantation however with one important request: a desire for a multifocal IOL to match his other eye. Dr Sheraz Daya is our guest surgeon and he will be featured on our CataractCoach Podcast tomorrow! Be sure to listen or watch.

  1. I think every patient should have a perfect IOL, this first one was obviously not simetric even after the “haptic repair”, and I would not accept such an IOL in my eye
