The iris clip / iris claw phakic IOL was designed to treat high degrees of myopia in younger patients where the human crystalline lens provided accommodation. This rigid lens is made of PMMA (poly-methyl-methacrylate) and cannot be bisected inside the eye. It has also been called the Verisyse, Artisan, and Wörst IOL. When we make a large 6 mm wide incision to remove this phakic IOL, we have to then think about how to use the phaco probe which is best in a 3 mm or smaller incision. In a similar case, I used sutures to close the incision, while out guest surgeon today has an alternate approach. Both are great. Which would you choose?
