1992: trypan blue behind the capsule

Trypan blue dye can go behind the capsule and stain the vitreous, pool in front of the anterior hyaloid face in Berger’s space, and block the red reflex. That will make it more challenging to perform cataract surgery since your visualization will be limited. This happens when the trypan blue dye goes through a gap in the zonular support. Using an air bubble to minimize the amount of dye injected can help, but it is no guarantee.
