
At the pre-operative consultation for this patient, it was unclear if there was capsular damage associated with this focal opacity. The patient sustained a pellet gun injury to the eye decades ago and shortly thereafter developed this lens opacity. There was no penetration of the globe and there is no retained intra-ocular foreign body. We are electing to perform cataract surgery but as the case is started, there is a question as to the integrity of the capsular bag. How would you proceed?
