At this point, nearly all IOL manufacturers offer at least some of their IOLs in pre-loaded form. The idea behind a pre-loaded IOL is that there is less manipulation required and a more consistent deliver of the IOL during cataract surgery. In addition, if we can deliver the IOL using just one hand then that leaves the other hand free to help guide the IOL into position and into the capsular bag. And we should probably talk about the seemingly odd model numbers that are assigned to these IOLs… perhaps there is a method to the madness.
