Our guest surgeon today shows us a very nice vertical chop technique. This works well if the nucleus has a sufficient degree of nuclear sclerosis, at least in the moderate range. The phaco probe tip and the chopper tip are placed in the central nucleus and both are embedded. Then the two instruments are pulled apart to create a cleavage plane which is propagated through the nucleus to create a full separation.
