To achieve the best combo chop, you want to have a sufficient distance between the phaco probe and the chopper tip so that you can create a complete separation of the nucleus. This means that you do not want to place your probe in the center of the nucleus, but rather just inside the sub-incisional capsulorhexis. This will allow you to make short work of nucleus removal and complete your case in an efficient manner.
