1184: diamond blades / keratomes

Diamond keratomes make the best incisions for cataract surgery because they are incredibly sharp and make very clean cuts in the tissue. These instruments are quite expensive and there is a learning curve for using them because of the lack of tactile feedback. Whereas a steel blade would face some resistance when being pushed through the corneal tissue, there is virtually none with the diamond keratome. ANd when comparing cataract incisions made with a diamond keratome to those made with a femtosecond laser, it is not enough close: the diamond is better.
