1054: complete case: why we chop

You know that I’m a big fan of the phaco chop technique for nucleus disassembly during cataract surgery because it is safe, efficient, and precise. It makes for truly minimally invasive surgery with a minimal amount of fluid and ultrasonic energy used to remove the cataract. If you are a novice or beginning surgeon, you must stop yourself from just passing this video and sticking within your comfort zone. You want to graduate from divide-and-conquer to phaco chop because this is a surgery that you will be performing hundreds (or even thousands) of times every year for many decade to come. Perhaps in the future we will have an even more efficient and more elegant technique for cataract removal, but for now, this is what you must learn.
