Cataract Surgery in Silicone Oil Eyes

Retina surgeons will occasionally use silicone oil to help keep the retina in position during healing and in rare cases, they may even leave the oil inside the vitreous cavity indefinitely. How is cataract surgery different in these eyes? How do you deal with oil leaking into the anterior segment? What about adjusting the IOL calculations?

  1. Hi – great video as I have a similar case coming up. Did you do anything different with the lens choice (ie switch from a biconvex lens to a convex-plano lens)?
