We have previously covered the topic of pseudo-exfoliation (PXF) in detail here on CataractCoach. It is an important topic because it is something that all cataract surgeons will encounter. The fibrillar deposits seen in PXF can lead to zonular weakness which makes the cataract surgery more challenging. How can we predict ahead of time if there will be significant zonular weakness, and an increased risk of complications, during cataract surgery? There are two clinical signs that give us this valuable information at the pre-operative consultation.
