When you watch experienced surgeons doing a capsulorhexis, it looks so easy. The anterior capsule is opened, a flap is turned, and with just a few grasps there is a perfect 5 to 5.5 mm diameter round opening. When you’re still learning, it is actually a very difficult task.
A helpful technique is to dial-in the correct size for the capsulorhexis by spiraling it out. Start smaller, as if you’re making a 4 mm diameter opening, and then gradually bring it out to a larger size until it is the desired size.
