2884: complex glaucoma tube revision

Close-up view of an eye during complex glaucoma tube revision surgery, showcasing the use of capsule tissue as a patch graft to shield the tube with visible blood vessels and surgical result annotations.

Our guest surgeon on the CataractCoach Podcast yesterday (the top podcast in all of ophthalmology – IFYKY!) was Cleveland Clinic Professor Dr Mary Qiu and she is changing the way we think about glaucoma surgeries. In this video, she performs tube revision surgery by repurposing the encapsulated scar tissue, (the tube capsule), rather than treating it merely as obstructive tissue. During revisions or exchanges, she harvests the surface of this vascularized, structured tissue to create a capsule autograft which serves as a natural patch material to cover the seton tube, providing an alternative to external donor tissue. This video is narrated by her, so today your friend the Cataract Coach gets a bit of a break. Fantastic video – so much to learn.
