2811: dislocated IOL requires explant x3!

Close-up image of an eye during surgery, showing a severely dislocated intraocular lens (IOL) being explained, with surgical instruments visible.

We receive about 60 video submissions per week (here is the link) and we can only feature about 10% of those. When I view the videos, I click through it quickly to see if the video quality, focus, and centration are acceptable and then a judgment is based on the topic, technique, and interest. Then when I record the voiceover, I watch the video for the first time as I give my real-time commentary (which is almost always recorded in just one take without editing). This is why I often say, “I’m watching the video for the first time with you” and sometimes I get surprised. This case seemed to feature a dislocated IOL that was explanted and then replaced but then that new IOL had be explanted again (which is why the title slide says x2). When I watched the video I was surprised that it was actually three IOL exchanges! Watch the video to see why.
