Our guest surgeon does a great job with a complex case of trauma. This patient has a severely dislocated crystalline lens and chronic mydriasis. The procedure is a pars plana lensectomy, pars plana vitrectomy, pupilloplasty and then an iris claw lens. In the USA, unfortunately, we do not have access to this iris claw lens for aphakia which is known by many names like Wörst, Artisan, Verisyse but only the high negative power versions were FDA approved as phakic IOL for treatment of extreme myopia. For those outside the USA, using an iris clip lens to treat aphakic is a safe, reliable option and can be significantly easier than doing a scleral fixated procedure. Do you think this iris after the pupilloplasty is strong and stable enough to support the iris clip lens?
