2392: reconstruction after alkali burn

This patient sustained an ocular surface alkali burn which resulted in severe loss of vision, symblepharon formation, and corneal damage. Our guest surgeon does a fantastic job of ocular surface reconstruction by removing fibrotic and scarred conjunctiva, then performing a corneal transplant, and then using tissue from the healthy fellow eye, does the SLET procedure: Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation. After some healing, the patient has an amazing recovery of useful vision. If you are interested in learning more about ocular surface reconstruction and transplantation techniques, our CataractCoach Podcast will feature a guest speaker to cover this topic in a few weeks (December 2024).
