3096: the trick to fix this misloaded haptic
Applying the 7L rule during intraocular lens injection ensures correct optic and haptic orientation before the lens fully unfolds inside the capsular bag. When a leading haptic emerges misloaded or extended in a straight “Superman” position, real-time intervention with a second instrument or chopper prevents planar inversion or a twisted haptic. Inserting a chopper through the paracentesis to gently manipulate and flex the leading haptic into the proper curvature as it exits the injector tip re-establishes the normal 7-shaped leading haptic configuration. This proactive IOL haptic correction guides the IOL and both haptics safely into the capsular bag. Watch the video to see how using a second instrument inside the anterior chamber corrects a misloaded leading haptic during injection. What intraocular intra-incisional tricks do you use when an intraocular lens haptic emerges misfolded or flipped during insertion?
