
This video features a ruptured globe with the trauma consisting of a sharp metal object which caused a laceration to the cornea as well as anterior lens capsule. We know that the corneal laceration must be sutured and then due to the open anterior lens capsule we must aspirate out the lens material. The question is: Should we leave the eye aphakic (the old dogma) or should we implant an IOL right now? Since this is a relatively clean case (metal trauma, not organic matter) I generally prefer to implant an IOL. And in this video I explain more, including how to do the IOL calculations.
