2608: Challenges with IOL haptics

Image depicting challenges with intraocular lens (IOL) haptics, showing a haptic under the optic, a haptic stuck in an injector, and a 'Superman' haptic.

About 25 years ago, most IOL designs were three-piece and they folded in half using lens folding forceps and then inserted with IOL forceps. This slowly evolved into IOL injectors and then the single-piece IOL designs took over as the most popular. Today we are blessed to have so many different IOL designs and they are able to be injected safely through very small incisions with precision injector systems. But things do not always go exactly as planned and in this video we should three situations of challenges with IOL haptics: a haptic stuck under the optic, a haptic stuck in the injector, and the so-called Superman haptic where the extended haptic is like the extended arm of Superman. The video also shows how to solve each of these scenarios.
