In most cataract surgery cases, the femtosecond laser does not offer any advantage over a proper capsulorhexis performed by an expert surgeon. However in some cases, this the one shown here there can be a benefit of using the femto laser to perform the capsular opening. In this case about half other zonular support is gone and the cataract has decentered. The femtosecond laser can create an anterior capsular opening without requiring counter traction from zonular support.
