Sometimes with cataract surgery, it is easier to separate the endonucleus from the rest of the lens material and remove it first. This is central, dense part of the nucleus is more easily chopped since it is smaller than taking the entire nucleus at once. Our guest surgeon does a nice technique of using the chopper to mechanically separate the endonucleus from the epi-nuclear shell.
