2205: Diamond Keratomes are Best

I have been a strong proponent of using diamond keratomes for more than 20 years. They are honed from gem quality diamonds and are many times sharper than the best steel blades. This means that the diamond keratomes produce a cleaner, more precise, and safer incision for my patients undergoing cataract surgery. With proper care, these blades never dull and can be sterilized and used thousands and thousands of times. If you use a diamond keratome that says SWISS MADE on the instrument, it is almost certainly made by Anton Meyer & Co. AG and then sold to an instrument distributor who then sells it to you under their label. You can get your diamond keratomes directly from www.meyco.ch like I did and then not deal with an instrument distributor to avoid paying the extra mark-up. These diamond keratomes are also far better for making phaco incisions than a femtosecond laser. If it is my eye having cataract surgery, I certainly prefer to have the incision made with a diamond keratome. Let me know if you have experience using these types of keratomes.
