Bilateral brunescent cataract surgery

This patient has been functionally blind for 10 years and presents to us with bilateral, dense, brunescent cataracts. We must help this patient and given the complexities of her general health problems, we have elected to do bilateral, same day cataract surgery. Since this is a purely charity case, we do not have to worry about insurance or Medicare regulations that limit the payment of the second eye if done on the same day as the first eye.

Each eye is treated like a separate patient so that all new instrumentation, draping, and scrubbing is performed for each eye. This will help to minimize the risk of any potential cross contamination. The result of this surgery was completely life changing for this patient. It reminds us that we have a special gift in the surgeries that we perform — we can literally bring back sight to patients who are blind. It was an honor to use our skills to help this charity patient achieve a new life.

  3. Wonderful surgery sir. I had operated a similar case some years earlier. Patient had a white cataract in both the eyes and was practically blind for eight years. After the surgery he for the first time saw his daughter in law and grand child. His joy knew no bound and I thanked almighty for being the medium. I did the second eye the next day. I’m a huge fan of yours.

    1. Thanks for the kind comments. We are truly blessed to be ophthalmologists and we can do so much to improve the lives of our patients.

  4. I am a big fan of yours Uday and hadn’t been to the site for some time. Recently, rediscovered the site and have been binging on the huge video content. Forget Netflix and Amazon Prime….head directly to cataractcoach. As an older, high volume cataract surgeon, I was getting complacent and set in my ways. I have now picked up a number of “pearls” and different techniques to deal with a myriad of difficult cases and haven’t been this excited with my new found knowledge in years!! You can teach an old dog new tricks.

    1. Thank you for the kind feedback! It’s an honor to get such a great comment from a high volume, highly experienced cataract surgeon like you.
